Providing yet another comprehensive collection with high amounts of sartorial flair, Alexander McQueen’s 2013 fall/winter collection displays a foray into traditional motifs with conceptual execution. The collection comes as another exhibition of the house’s directional approach, taking cues from the classic Edwardian style which encompasses a list of suits, robes, cardigans and trench coats over a list of mannequin-faced models. The former sees a selection of classic pinstripe silhouettes met by a dashing red and black capsule of turtlenecks and color-blocked outerwear, before shifting into more neutral tonal layered jackets, vest and shirting. The latter exhibits more Gothic aesthetics: an interspersed of ornate stain-glass designs on full-piece suits followed by more subtle velvet garments, before applying the classic polka-dot pattern over a panel of extravagant attires. With a blend of traditional detailed cutting applied with uncanny print elements, Sarah Burton again delivers an abstract collection honoring the late-great designer.
