Now in its fifth season, Italian boutique sunglasses label RETROSUPERFUTURE consistently innovates on classic eyewear concepts, bringing fresh ideas in pattern, texture and vibrant color to an industry seemingly content to do the opposite. New optical range notwithstanding, the label’s highly anticipated Fall/Winter 2012 sunglasses collection is centered around themes of “Humanism,” wherein each handcrafted piece in the series is inspired by world culture and man’s innate ability to turn natural elements to art. This rings especially true in the black and gold “Francis” series, where we’re treated to Flat Top and People models with laser-engraved hieroglyphics on each arm.
This engraving isn’t the only manufacturing technique unique to the line — SUPER is also expanding its popular and extremely limited Visivia series, with a collection of high-resolution frame printing in a bevy of crisp, nature-inspired patterns. Also, in addition to the reintroduction of the highly sought-after Leather & Acetate range whose black acetate frames are wrapped in an aged brown leather, the Lucia frame will also be getting a wrap, but in a luxurious fabric resembling an ornate Turkish rug. This is one of SUPER’s biggest collections to date, and easily one of the deepest. As always, with the exception of the standard acetate pieces, much of the collection will be exceptionally limited and only produced while in-season and available at select retailers including EyeGoodies.com.
