Patrik Ervell‘s latest collection sees the designer look towards California – the state in which he was raised as a youth – for inspiration. The show, which adopted a large sultry sun that rose and set as a backdrop to his youthfully minimalist designs, possessed an inherently “California mindset.” Appropriating The North Face outerwear and Teva footwear in the collection allowed the designer to further a fatigued spirit of adventure that is characteristic of his style. Featuring laid-back military reinterpretations and a washed-up take on American workwear, the collection not only manages to capture the dreamy essence of America’s West, but also evokes the Romantic notion of ideals sacrificed to reality. Despite this, pieces in the collection such as the variations on military bomber jackets and sharply-tailored trousers demonstrate that Ervell compromises none of the confidence with which he designs.
