With the final weeks of summer winding down, emerging Japanese label The Letters has released its Fall/Winter 2012 lookbook, giving us a glimpse into its second full menswear collection. Combining rustic, workwear-inspired pieces with contemporary cuts and never straying from an earthy color palette, the collection was conceived with the utilitarian clothing of the early 1900s in mind. Despite such focused inspiration and colors, however, The Letters does provide variety in the form of a myriad of seasonal textures and fabrics — the garments utilize corduroy, denim, wool and fur, among others. The turn-of-the-century offerings — suits, vests, shirting and pants — are also updated with contemporary, Japanese twists such as cropped hems and slimmed-down fits.
