Depth of Speed: Back to Life

What does driving smell like? We’ve been enjoying the Depth of Speed web series as it travels across the United States photographing, documenting and retelling the most compelling tales of visceral, vehicular adoration. In this zombie-inspired installment “Back to Life,” we find ourselves in St. Paul, Minnesota with ‘Joel’ and his impressive 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit restoration — his very first restoration and build project. Unique to Joel’s zombie Rabbit, are the bevy of rich leather details like hood straps and the wrapped steering wheel. Joel even went to great painstaking lengths to upholster the seats himself from re-purposed leather jackets. Check out the video to see how Joel brought to life a once-dead VW with an initial $400 investment, and plenty of self-taught ingenuity.
