A Video About Cai Guo Qiang's Art Using Gunpowder and Explosives

Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang paints on a massive floor canvas with an explosive brush. He is a master in the art of complex pyrotechnic displays, using gunpowder and explosives to mesmerize his audiences and create spectacular installations in the residue and fiery scars left behind. Guo-Qiang’s expertise in the art has even allowed him to direct the special effects at the opening and closing ceremonies during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. films present “Sky Ladder,” a short film on his latest exhibition at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Los Angeles — his first solo debut on the West Coast. One of the show’s major highlights includes the 108-foot-wide “Childhood Spaceship” drawing, exhibiting Guo-Qiang’s fascination with space and the extraterrestrial.
