Thirteen years ago yesterday, Shawn Fanning and Shawn Parker single-handedly changed the future of the music industry when they released pioneering file-sharing service Napster. A new documentary from filmmaker Alex Winter entitled Downloaded: The Digital Revolution focuses on Fanning and Parker’s showdown with the Recording Industry Association of America, which launched an 8-year Supreme Court case and opened a new dialogue on legitimacy of content piracy and freedom of the internet. The digital revolution ultimately created a technology paradigm shift, upended big business and musical artists and definitely changed the world. The film was first previewed at SXSW earlier this year, but has yet to premiere in full.
