To commemorate the opening of its fifth U.S. location, Dior Homme recently commissioned noted fashion photographer Bruce Weber to produce “Can I Make the Music Fly,” a short feature that will play in the label’s new Miami, Florida boutique. Weber — himself a Miami native — shot three young, creative talents for the film, casting ballet dancer Sergei Polunin, violin virtuoso Claudius Agrippa and violinist Charlie Siem, among others to feature in the lushly-orchestrated clip. In stark black and white, “Can I Make the Music Fly” flawlessly portrays the Dior Homme aesthetic while also harkening back to the romantic heritage of the fashion house. Watch the video above, and read our short interview with creative director Kris Van Assche below.

How does Miami factor into the world’s fashion scene?
Miami has a wonderfully unique spirit and fashion culture, and the Design District is filled with galleries and design stores so there is already a large overlap with Dior Homme’s customer and aesthetic.

We felt it was the perfect time for us to establish ourselves in this market.

Why did you guys choose Bruce Weber to participate in the opening of the store?
I greatly enjoy collaborations with other artists, it’s one of the great perks of my job that I have the ability to work with these creative talents who I so admire.

Bruce is a terrific talent. He is one of the most iconic fashion photographers of all time. His stark black and white, formed photography fits well into my vision for Dior Homme. Plus, Bruce is from Miami. He is a part of the community. I wanted to offer something to our Miami customers beyond simply a retail shopping experience—I wanted to connect with Miami in a way that spoke both to the brand and to the community, so it made total sense to me to offer him a ‘carte blanche.’
