Redefining What It Means to Make Music on Turntables

The advancement of digital technologies has allowed just about everyone with a mobile phone, tablet, personal computer or gaming system to become an amateur musician. Now, with one of the more unorthodox approaches in recent memory, comes the Dyskograf. Utilizing paper records and felt-tip pens, the unique “graphic disc reader” allows users to customize individual paper records however they may choose. The markings on the discs are then picked up by a high-speed camera that feeds the images to custom software, transforming them into digital bass, snares, hi-hats, cymbals and more in conjunction with their location on the paper discs. The Dyskograf will be on display and available for manipulation by visitors at the Visionsonic Festival and Festival OFNI in France later in the month of November while additional information on the project can be found here.
