Situated in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, Washington is the Capitol Hill Residence by Balance Associates Architects. Occupying a plot on a ridge, the house boasts 180 degree views of the neighboring lakes and mountains. In order to stay within the footprint of the previous house, the new residence cantilevers off its base on three sides. The center area of the house is semitransparent and designed to filter daylight into the core of the house. With an eye towards sustainability, the house features a rain water catchment system, solar panels, solar shading, and was constructed with sustainable practices and materials.
