As the world’s greenhouse gas emissions levels continue to rise, scientists and designers alike are working together to offer innovative, as well as stylish, alternatives to daily commuting. Brazilian industrial designer Gustavo Brenck presented his Scooter Backpack recently, giving the fashion-forward, traveling urbanite yet another mode of transportation. Cleverly designed, the nylon backpack, with numerous compartments for personal storage, provides a folding aluminum scooter platform that zips easily into the inner shell. With the added touches of a telescopic handlebar, removable wheels and lightweight materials weighing a total 90 kilograms, the Scooter Backpack is just the beginning of a revolution looking to bring style to the environment-conscious transportation industry. As Brenck said, “Now there are no more excuses not to use alternative transportation and avoid traffic.”
