David Choe Immortalizes Beat Up Chicago Teenager

Chicago police are currently questioning six Chicago teenagers after footage of a brutal beating of a 17-year-old Chinese student went viral on the internet this past Monday. Amidst the controversy of the events, street artist David Choe has chosen to immortalize the teen in his latest wall mural. The motivation for the piece stems from Choe’s observation and interpretation of the victim who, despite continued verbal slurs and physical abuse, remained resolute and unyielding to take off his backpack in the face of the brutal attacks. In the midst of outspoken political activists calling for action, it is good to see artist like David Choe using their respective mediums of communication to speak their voice.
