Thom Browne made waves earlier this week with the announcement of Thom Grey, a diffusion line aimed at bringing the designer’s preppy aesthetic and shrunken proportions to a new, younger audience. Today, with the release of the collection at Barneys, we see the designer’s latest, off-kilter take on traditional, WASP-y wardrobe staples — ties, classic outerwear, knitwear, oxford-cloth button-downs, and the expected cropped suits. Fittingly, the predominant hue here is grey, with pops of vibrant green coming courtesy of a V-neck sweater and rugby shirt. Among the standouts, and previewed beforehand, is the letterman jacket — grey-striped, with leather sleeves and bold lettering across the back, an attractive alternative to the popular mainline varsity jackets. For those looking for a bit of Browne at his most recognizable, a version of the now-iconic shrunken grey suit, complete with ankle-baring cropped pants, is also available.
