As GQ‘s Justin Doss points out, “This is not your Ivy League professor’s wardrobe.” An exclusive first look into the upcoming partnership between American preppy institution J. Press and rising menswear label Ovadia & Sons, this J. Press York Street By Ariel and Shimon Ovadia preview reveals a refreshing blend of updated collegiate staples from the savvy perspective of one of the Best New Menswear Designers in America. The prep cornerstones of the historic men’s clothier are all present — madras, sack suits, tennis sweaters, white bucks and schoolboy scarves. Meanwhile, the fingerprints of the Ovadia brothers are also there — cargo pants in orange blaze, Tretorn Nylites standing in for Jack Purcells, linen tuxedo shirts, and slimmer fits throughout. The results are uncannily harmonious — the notion of traditional yet modern is thrown around loosely, but in this case holds true. Named after the Yale campus street upon which J. Press was originally founded, the label’s offerings will be available at J. Press retailers sometime next season.
