Instagram, the whimsical photo-sharing app that combines some of the best aspects of social media platforms Twitter and Tumblr, has cleared the 27 million user mark. More interesting about this figure is that over 67% of those users are still active, having used the app within the last 24 hours. Instagram’s co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger revealed at SXSW that now that they’ve scaled enough to meet the needs of iPhone users, an Android app isn’t too far from release, opening up the platform to an entirely new user base. Kreiger hints that in some ways, the Android version is even better than its iPhone counterpart. An official launch date has yet to be revealed, but like most announcements of this nature in the tech world, it shouldn’t be too far off.
