Brazil has exported some amazing things over the last several decades. The army-less nation will soon be shipping tankers of oil around the globe by the time it hosts the 2016 Olympic Games. But for most of us, the best stuff has been a bit less official, like glitter-covered shaking butts, Giselle, the slow-mo fight scene in Only the Strong, and that psychotic child drug dealer from City of God.

Açaí bowls, essentially smoothies made from fruit of the South American açaí palm with attractive layers of fruit, are here to stay. This is the lunch of choice for folks looking for an excuse to eat something ice cream-ish for breakfast or lunch. The best place to enjoy this healthy yet delectable delight is Fresh Cafe in Honolulu, Hawaii. Run by the always chippy Tiffany Tanaka, Fresh Cafe is a champion for local business and a gathering place for creatives in music, art and cuisine. The cafe is integrally connected to Loft in Space, which is located in the back warehouse and has exhibited the likes of KRINK, Patrick Martinez, and is also home to the upcoming POW WOW Hawai’i 2012 which takes place with live paintings between February 14-17 and culminates with an opening night on February 18.

Ingredients
  1. 01 blueberries
  2. 02 strawberries
  3. 03 raspberries
  4. 04 bananas
  5. 05 mangoes
  6. 06 honey
  7. 07 mint
  8. 08 granola
  9. 09 bee pollen

Step 1
Fresh ingredients is key to a good acai bowl. Here we have an Açaí smoothie mix, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, bananas, mangoes, honey, mint, granola, and bee pollen. Keep it organic when possible and always fresh.

Step 2
Slice mangoes and prep fresh fruit.

Step 3
Drop in the assortment of berries into the blender.

Step 4
Add in your Açaí smoothie mix.

Step 5
Pour a cup of soy milk.

Step 6
Blend concoction until it forms a slurry of vitamins and anti-oxidant filled goodness.

Step 7
Pour blend into a bowl.

Step 8
Top it off with granola.

Step 9
Add your favorite fresh fruit that are sliced into perfection. In this case, we used blueberries, bananas, mangoes, raspberries, and strawberries.

Step 10
Make it rain bee pollen.

Step 11
Drizzle with honey. Local is best if you can get it.

Step 12
There you have it. A healthy meal packed with everything you love.

Step 13
Enjoy every spoon full.
