The latest edition of our Essentials series shines the spotlight on Maurice Ajanaku, Editor-in-Chief of namesake creativity-hub and online magazine AJANAKU.com and Art Director of Vlisco Group. His eponymous website serves as an outlet for his many interests, focusing on everything from Ajanaku’s personal closet and wishlist to architecture, art, fashion, film, music and photography, all while presenting additional content generated by contributors from around the world. As a true gentleman, his essentials include one of his favorite bespoke dress shirts from local tailor Ettemadis alongside a Jupe by Jackie embroidered tie, Floris van Bommel dress shoes, and a Baume & Mercier Classima. Rounding out his favorites are some reading material, his personal Blackberry, and a vintage camera passed down from his father.

    I don’t see any hipster on this essential, no iPhone, no Rolex and no any gold accesoires to show how rich he is. Blackberry isn’t a hipster product, way more a business phone.

    The word hipster is more like a nowadays stereotype, but people take it more to another level.

    There’s never going to be an essentials that everyone will agree on. If it’s a dude with graphic tees, a coin purse and snapbacks, he is immature and dresses like a child. If he’s got lots of money with flashy things, he’s considered a rich douchebag that wears too much cologne. If he’s got nice taste in classy or vintage things such as the guy here, he’s considered a pretentious hipster snob. If everyone here thinks their essentials are so much better, post away and you’ll see you’re no better than the guys that have their essentials posted here.
