Impressive announcements out of the SIHH 2012 convention (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) are in no short supply this week. Continuing the trend of producing handsome watches is a marriage of true vintage style and rugged, modern machining in a brilliant reinterpretation of the 1950 3 Days GMT Ceramic Automatic from Panerai. Housed in a brushed black 44mm ceramic case is Panerai’s excellent in-house mechanical P.9001 movement powering the date, seconds, minutes, hours, and a fourth GMT timezone hand. The back of the watch also features a uniquely ‘smoked’ sapphire crystal to reveal the watch’s remaining power reserve, and to view in motion, that superlative 29-jewel movement that Panerai is become synonymous with.
