Goro’s x visvim FBT by Hiroshi Fujiwara

January 26, 2012Styleby Alex Maeland6422 Views

visvim’s classic FBT footwear silhouette sees its latest adaptation at the hand of Hiroshi Fujiwara and Japan-based accessories purveyor, Goro’s. The three-part collaborative sees Goro’s’ unique Native American-embellished jewelry and applied to the silhouette’s customary leather collar. Fujiwara furthered the redesign by applying chromatic beads to the tassels of the FBT’s upper paneling. Offered in three color options – brown, tan and white – each pair is mocked up in a supple leather or suede upper and is finished off with tonal leather laces.

When you wear a pair of quality made shoes, you won’t go back. Not everyone can identify a pair of visvims, but most people who buy them are actually people who goes for understated luxury who doesn’t see the need to show-off.

people get so caught up with where shit is made nowadays. just because something is made in portugal doesn’t mean it’s any better than what’s made in china- in fact sometimes it’s worse. a huge amount of the world’s goods are made in china, and while labor there is cheap there’s also a lot of very advanced factories that exist precisely because of china’s presence in the manufacturing industry. one could source materials from all over the world and have them assembled in china… one of visvim’s strengths is material sourcing, after all. and while you might say that assembly in china is bashable or maybe visvim does it like some european companies, it is to my knowledge that they oversee every single step of the manufacturing process to ensure it meets their standards. also, mr. mann… perfection isn’t what you should expect of visvim. it’s counter-intuitive to hiroki’s philosophy, particularly as of late. i would say it’s more of a… natural striving towards a perfection that ultimately cannot be achieved through natural, hand-made means. just one dimension to it i would say.

I swear I’ve heard people say these^ exact same things about so many different brands that get flamed for being too expensive…. I don’t see why anyone would spend so much time defending a brand they are not affiliated with.  If you wear it -cool.  No one else cares though.

dude, they are already made in Korea. Some of ‘em are made in China.

The VISVIM jacket you speak of at UNION was $4300, made of waterproof goat suede.

Props on the $7 jacket…sounds like a come up!

Whenever I consider purchasing any high-end clothing, I always check out seams, and stray threads and such. More high end brands tend to be perfect in the sense that there  are perfectly straight and well-sewn seams and no stray bits of thread anywhere to be seen. Visvim products I have seen have terrible stitching with tons of stray thread and imperfect seams. Not worth it in my opinion. I am a perfectionist.

Anyone know where I can purchase??

I’m not a fan of Visvim myself but Maximus brings up a good point.  I have no doubt Visvim is all about quality, construction, comfort, and of course unique aesthetics.  Having never seen a pair in person I can’t say for sure but when people only complain about pricing rather than poor stitching, horrible customer service, etc then I can only confidently say they are doing something right.

On to your jacket, I can’t imagine why Visvim would charge 5k but I’m having a hard time believing your $7 thrift shop steal is anywhere near the standards of quality, fit, construction, longevity, etc. Visvim’s quality control team imposes on their products.  Does that mean the suede Visvim jacket is worth 5k?  Not necessarily… but does that mean your jacket is on par with Visvim’s?  Highly unlikely…

there was a visvim suede jacket that was very very nice i saw at UNION for  over $5k

I have the same jacket i bought from a thrift store for $7.

if 2 people were walking with each of these jackets on, a chick wouldn’t be able to tell AT ALL

made me feel real good about my jacket.. you couldn’t tell the difference at all

     rich hippie shoes, mind you

Andy, It seems that you have never actually worn a pair of these before or handled them in person. Visvim exudes nothing but quality and comfort. The craftsmanship is amazing. I have a few pair myself and I am not rich, or a “kid trying to be street”. Visvim does not have the same distribution model as brands such as a brand like Clarks, and do not have the same ability to price their product as competitively as Clarks are capable of doing so. Just because they seem expensive to you does not mean that they are not worth the money. I prefer to own fewer products of higher quality then allot of mediocre products. You have to take into account the quality of materials, overseas distribution and keeping their product limited to maintain the long term life of the brand. If they wanted everyone to wear their shoes they would most likely move production to somewhere like Korea, price each pair under $100 and place them in mall chains. But then you wouldn’t have the aesthetic value and physical quality that they are trying to maintain. You get what you pay for, and these are a prime example of that. Don’t forget to take into account the knock-off production of Visvim that are widely available on the internet that definitely digs deeply into Visvim’s profits.

Any piece from Goro’s on that shoe can easily cost more than $100 in the market, if I can afford it I’d rock them with a plastic bag wrap on my kick.

I think these fit into their own category. It’s not for me but it has its place. If you prefer the classic americana vibes then that’s for you, but FBTs have the stamp of approval from various types of folks going from menswear god Nick Wooster to crazy jap streetwear boys to rich-ass kids trying to be legit… Just saying I think they have their place, especially when done right.

I do not know what you would compare to these?  I would rather get me some Native Craft Works, Quoddy, Yuketen or even a good old pair of Clarks!  Look at the sole on these, it looks ugly and does not fit with the shoe!

and tell me what do you prefer?

Visvim are completely whack!!  Who actually buys this stuff?  In my experiance it’s been kids with too much money trying to be “street”…….
