My Morning Jacket - Our World (Muppets Cover)

In anticipation for the next Muppets movie, Disney is preparing a special musical tribute, entitled The Green Album. Slated for a release date on August 23, the piece is set to contain contributions from the likes of Weezer, Paramore, Andrew Bird, Sondre Lerche, Evanescence’s Amy Lee and more. All artists have reinterpreted several songs from the Jim Henson songbook. Spin offers the stream of the tribute LP’s first audio impression – My Morning Jacket’s take of “Our World.” The band’s bassist, Tom Blankenship, said this about their cover version:

“Every December, my friend Cara and I would camp in her basement, furiously running through channels on the old slider cable box, passing time until the next showing of ‘Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas.’ It deserves to share legendary status with Rudolph, Frosty, and Charlie Brown (holiday specials)… It’s our yearly reminder that the world outside the perpetual TV glow of that wood-paneled basement was a lot more welcoming, that strangers were a dying breed, that adventure was ripe for the taking if you left your heart open and let folks in.”
