With its self-titled motto, “a positive social contagion” serving as its foundation, jeffstaple and his namesake creative agency, Staple Design, has long been a prevalent force in fashion, design, art and culture. Today, Staple announces his latest socially conscious collaborative effort alongside The truth1585 campaign which takes aim at spreading a message to “Open Your Eyes” to the lies and manipulations around you, most notably in the tobacco industry.

For The truth1585 Collection, eight unique T-shirts are set to release on December 5. Each T-shirt was designed and will subsequently be stocked at a carefully chosen list of eight boutiques and street fashion stores across the U.S. in New York City, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, DC. Providing a uniquely localized appeal, each boutique crafted a T-shirt design that was fit for each shop’s respective clientele. Aligning with The truth1585 Collection, a new website, truth1585.com, will be launched as a portal to highlight the range of product and gear as well as tell the story and progression behind the project. Check out the list of The truth1585 collaborators below while jeffstaple offers his heartfelt insights here.

It’s not about the store or the product to me.  As a born and bred metro Detroiter I’m just tired of outsiders exploiting this specific sight and making it the ‘image’ of Detroit.  For the past 10 years we’ve had hundreds of photographers come in and take this same exact picture.  We don’t really view this landmark in a positive light and wish people would focus on other parts…

all these clothing lines suck these days….blah blah blah, hype hype hype….high priced garbage. you can get higher quality shirts for 10 bucks.

Is there a different store within closer proximity to the site in the photograph that you would have chosen?

Actually it does seeing as jeffstaple is attempting to make a statement regarding a area that will not see any form of profit nor benefit from the product he created. Not even from the store selling it

The “truth” is that Chicago still does not get the credit it deserves… we’ve got as much, if not more, of a scene than the rest of those cities… He could have collabo’d with JUGRNT, St. Alfred’s, or LEADERS 1354… hell even RSVP

Why does that even matter? Where the photo was taken and where the shirts are being sold have nothing to do with the message they are trying to convey.

The Detroit store in which this stuff will be sold is about 20 minutes away from the location of the Detroit photo found in this promo, two very different economic climates in the metro city.  Glad to see people are still exploiting the decrepit run-down train station.
