Hero – A Drawing Composed of 3.2 Million Ink Dots

December 6, 2011Artsby Alec Banks26471 Views

There are two things that reign true. First, patience is a virtue. Second, art is pain. Both are on showcase as artist Miguel Endara draws a portrait of his father using 3.2 million precise dots. When asked about the pens and pencils he used to create the task he pointed to the faber-castell F, and micron .005, only needing one pen to finish the entire thing. Check out the miraculous achievement above.

i agree with you when it comes to doing this as projects but it’s amazing because the fact is that most people will not take the time to be that detailed.

This looks amazing and took some incredible patience. This reminds me I need some new microns.

its not debatable… its in the article.  ” When asked about the pens and pencils he used to create the task he
pointed to the faber-castell F, and micron .005, only needing one pen to
finish the entire thing”  again, learn to read and apparently how to use a pen as well

Debatable. From personal use, they dont last long.

dude, this guy needs respect for the patience of making this, and the awesome end result.
oh, ive been using this pen for awhile and actually it performs well enough for me to stick with it. although the 0.005 keeps splitting the tip. :(

  • Ravinder Singh

way to read… only needed one pen

Yes you may be in art school and yes this is a similar exercise/assignment lots of schools assign to their students. This is still awesome on many different levels.
a.) and most obvious the guy has got skills, very few freshman art students and even working artists have that skill set to make such a piece

b.) this video is highlighting the artist as well as the quality of the pen/ink its serves as a great advertisement for the artist, his love for his father, and how good the pen is because you can make 3.2 million dots with one single pen and it will end up looking awesome. It’s selling that false idea to you art students that you CAN do this too on your first assignment of freshman year when really you won’t get close.

c.) this is just a very very well shot video. It’s not some boring lapse of time from one angle video. keeps you intrigued and an active viewer because we all know what he’s doing from the title of the video, and we could just fast forward to the end to see the end result if we wanted too but it’s the idea that it doesn’t make us want to do that…it keeps us engaged and thus has “hooked” us and you will remember this video…when your trying to do you stippling drawing or you pass some of your classmate’s work in the hall you will remember and compare it to this video and this drawing

and to just stop you before you try and come back with some argument on how there are amazing art students just save it, i’m not knocking art students I was one 6 months ago and there are tons of very very talented students that are the future of the creative world…But saying this video isn’t that impressive and freshman art students do the same stuff your crazy

    dude just use photoshop filter

They are really nice pens but one problem. The ink runs out pretty fast. He must have went through a 100 pens to make this video.

You know a couple commas slipped in there also.

no chance you’ve ever done anything this detailed in your life. yeah, they do make you do stippling, but nothing close to that size or that detailed…

Bladdermir, you’re dumb. It’s advertising the pen quality. To reiterate, you’re dumb.

Is there a tool in video editing packages that allow you to do things like count up (dots) or countdown (time) without actually typing in numbers in each frame?

  • http://twitter.com/WheresMyHippo Herbert C. Hippos

    so many periods.

  • Anonymous

Was i the only one trying to pause the video when that little dot flashed super quick in the beginning?

I would sell this for about….$100k, just off the fact that it probably took forever.
