HBO’s How to Make It in America Cancelled

Today’s entertainment news brings word that the second season of HBO’s How to Make It in America will be its last. While always compared to Entourage, the New York City-focused show seemed to be entering its own lane thanks to inventive storylines, good character actors, and the promise of making it in a world where there’s no handouts. Along with How to Make It in America, HBO axed Bored to Death and Hung as well.

    Really bummed that they cancelled this show. It had an original feel with the theme song and exploring a new type of culture in a new generation. To all the people who said the show had bad writing…..go back to watching Keeping up with the Kardashians.

    hope i dont offend the HBO series affficianodo’s and the “experts on character development” i see listed up here. . .despite all the hate it was a good show regardless of if people felt like “it was going no where”. I dont understand this move. . i highly doubt this show wasn’t getting “enough views” just look at the angst of all listed above. .     The show was about the hustle, and how to get over the walls the universe provides. It was very inspirational. The shows you mentioned are great too, but you cant compare them to this show; apple to oranges. Sure it had its recycled plot lines, but what show doesn’t, did you watch entourage after the 4 season, it was complete garbage, and I was a huge fan.

    Even though I was excited to watch it every week, the truth is that the show was cheesy as fuck, I ended up pissed every show because of it. We were only watching it because it’s a stereotype of the niche clothing market WE all follow, so we can relate to it and easily remain bias while the reality was that other than the clothing startup plot line, every other sucked and the writing was shit, at the end of the day it’s about ratings, and there is a big world outside of the hype beast crowd.

    This show was nice, but the writing and character development were going nowhere… I am far more sour about Bored to Death being cancelled because Danson and Galifianakis were incredible. At least they brought back Life and Times of Tim which is always easy going fun.

    The show really needed two seasons just to plant its story. I’m thoroughly disappointed they cancelled it, things were starting to look real interesting with the clothing line finally coming together and the Gadzooks deal for them to kick in the door. Rachel serving as the Neandrathal publicist seemed like it had potential on it as well. 

    At least they ended it on a good note, I guess they made it in America.

    I love the show and hate to agree with Kevin Shark. They really needed some legit content, but I can how it would be hard to establish the different storyline’s like Rachels and Rasta Monsta in 30 min episodes for 6-8 episode seasons. It was very entertaining!

    this show was much more than a vicarious experience for the up & coming generation of designers, it’s inspiration for the ppl who bust their ass each & every day, network every chance they get, and never take no for an answer. sure it’s not completely realistic but its tv HBO that was a #dickmove

    Looking at these comments, HBO nailed their target market. But there was absolutely nothing going on on this show, man. Except for near Game-diss-track levels of namedropping and the occasional celebrity cameo, it was filler upon filler and absolutely nothing happened from the beginning of one season the the end of the next. “We got tshirts! Someone stole our tshirts! We got hoodies! Someone stole our hoodies! We got weedspray! Someone stole our weedspray!” Comrades, use your HBOGO accounts and watch early episodes of The Wire, Curb Your Enthusiasm or Entourage; forget this program ever existed.

    I have to agree with the rest of the anger comments that you see above. HBO has made a terrible decision in canceling three of their shows. The HBO network is going to have to deal with it’s anger consumers along with the drop of the channel. There’s only so many movies we can watch.
