The once mainstay of great American denim, North Carolina, has seen many of the statewide denim factories cease production and transfer operations to cheaper overseas manufacturers. Raleigh Denim however poses as one of the last producers in America’s denim mecca, creating simply styled, meticulously detailed jeans, handmade with local materials and vintage machines. Reaching new heights, the North Carolina denim producer teamed up with Barneys New York to produce a limited collection of hand-dipped indigo chambray trousers. The video above highlights Raleigh Denim’s hand-dyeing process, as Susan Oliver Fennell discusses the sought-after color consistency and director Nick Pironio elegantly captures the oxidation process as jeans hang outside in the beautiful sunlight. This featured style will be available in small numbers at Barneys New York.
