New York 1940s in Color

Some time back Business Insider posted a feature showcasing select photographs from a collection by photographer Charles Cushman, shots that were captured between 1938 to 1969 and passed along to his alma mater, Indiana University. Offered here is a look into the collection that was curated by JG Mango, photographs of Manhattan in the 1940s for your viewing pleasure. The article in its entirety can be accessed here.

    Are you kidding? There’s nothing that indicates these were enhanced.  Color photography has been around since the late 1800′s; don’t be a tool.

    I just paid $22.87 for an iPad2 (64GB) and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS.     Ya’ll gotta be trippin’. I agree black and white is nicer aesthetically, but colored prints in this era and area was rare enough. To just see this in color is a treat itself.

    Looks just as good as B&W to me.. something gives this an authentic feel as if I were there looking at it
