London photoshoplooters

August 20, 2011Artsby Douglas Brundage103 Views

One of the latest media responses to the uncontrollable rioting that occurred recently in London also may end up being remembered as the best. London’s photoshoplooters is a Tumblr dedicated to superbly-altered images of the rioting, placing bizarre animals such as pandas and aardvarks as well as characters from Sesame Street and SpongeBob SquarePants, alongside the furiously-looting citizens who actually roamed about in a far less jovial mob. Relevant both socio-culturally and politically, the blog’s most important feature may be that it’s also flat-out funny.

are any of you people actually from england? there is a big difference between political unrest and some chavas after a new pair of reeboks. can people honestly credit these scum with enough actual intelligence to form any ideas on justice etc. the only person these people listen to is Jeremy Kyle. ’nuff said.

I just paíd $20.87 for an íPad 2.64GB and my boyfriend loves his Panasoníc Lumíx GF 1 Cámera that we got for $38.79 there arriving tomorrow by UP S.I will never pay such expensive retail príces in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LCD T V to my boss for $657 which only cost me $62.81 to buy.

That’s a typical response, if you tend to see things exclusively in socio-economic, institutional shades.  There’s truth to that to be sure; but it would be way too glib and reductionist to also ignore the role of ethics, responsibility, and — God forbid — personal choice in the matter.  There are plenty of frustrated and disenfranchised who DON’T resort to rioting.

Don’t forget, too — that some of the business and homes destroyed were of fellow, disenfranchised immigrants, not the “wealthy” elite.  Ah, the contradictions are rich.

when you get free education, free healthcare, cheap housing facilities and benefits which excede most people’s salaries, not to mention thirty pounds of EMA into their back pockets every week you get a situation which hasn’t derived from any form of social opression. my mum hasn’t got a job, i live on an estate and a lot of people i know when looting, believe me, we don’t have it bad. Summer holidays B.O.R.E.D.O.M. That’s why gang violence is so rife around june july august.
Not to mention greed. As a species we always want more.
Give it a rest mate, you don’t have a clue.

jesus, no one fucking said rioting was at all good OR going to solve anything. It’s simply a consequence you dipshits. A consequence that we should be striving to remove in the future. We always have other options, this was simply the one that was chosen by many many idiots. If something is going wrong then we have to think of how it was socially spurred, not sit back and fuckn blame individuals. First question is how’d TV’s and sneakers became so fucking important..

Serious comments are for serious topics. There isn’t any meaning behind editing these images of the rioting, just that of shits and giggles. This isn’t a bloody political debate…. P.s some of these are rather amusing.

    Mad at government.
Rob small businesses that struggle everyday.
    A true revolution.

Rioting is the most rudimentary form of political unrest. It is the responsibility of lawmakers and those who govern to unsure that rioting does not take place by keeping the general population content. However if government is crippled or made unreliable NOTHING is protected from rioting, as it is pure pandemonium. If libertarianism is allowed to flourish in countries with such enormous gaps between wealth and poverty, then this is what you can expect in any sovereign nation first world or not.. i.e. people left without will eventually look to take what they want.

Rioting is not ever going to solve anything. These people do have other options. Also most of these people just want to cause havoc. it barely had anything to do with englands government or social problems if you think that the riots were a good thing you are soo stupid.

When you cut the facilities, slash jobs, abuse power, discriminate, drive people into deeper poverty and shoot people dead whilst refusing to provide answers or justice.
    The people will rise up.
And express their anger and frustration if you refuse to hear their cries. A riot is the language of the unheard.

There were enough women rioting! Ok, most of them were men, but it doesn’t mean that there weren’t chicks out there doing their bit too.

Bwah ha ha, i couldnt tell which ones were photoshopped and which ones weren’t, what a pack of grade A losers. Why did they all have to be such cliches? Hoodies. Check. Sneakers. Check. And how we sposed to stamp out racism if a riot occurs and 9 out of 10 are of colour? And only men? Where the women at? …Women be shop-pengg! But at least they use credit cards instead of crow bars. C’mon now… get a job, stop being a cliche, join society with the rest of us and start acting like a HUMAN BEING. Before you end up as just another (foreseeable) statistic.
