Jay-Z & Kanye West – Watch the Throne (Full Album Stream)

August 8, 2011Musicby Petar Kujundzic7030 Views

After countless teasers, snippets, visual trailers, rumors and whatnot, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative project, Watch the Throne, has been released today exclusively today on iTunes with a physical release following on August 12. It is also worth pointing out that this is the first time since the dawn of the internet age that one of the year’s most anticipated albums has avoided the leak trap. You can stream the LP in its full audio glory below, but make sure to support. It sure is worth it.

Listen the production is nothing short of what I expect from the brilliant Kayne but the lyrics he spits are worse than Lil wayne freestyling, his feature on Big Seans new album is also whack! Jay on the other hand is a legend and holds his end with his flow but is it a album I’ll sit and listen to over an over again!!! Nope affraid not, they prolong tracks with drawnout electro rubbish which aint for me! Hip-Hop is moving with people like Meek Millz and Big Sean and Drake which are all similar but for great beats and flow J.Cole is the future.

I just paíd $22.85 for an íPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her her Canon EOS Rebel Camera that we got for $38.78 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $625 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, Centb.côm

ALL Hype little substance … you might as well listen to Baller Rap.

This album is so out of touch with what’s going on in the world, essentially it’s self indulgent, “Look at me” crap. This is the equivalent of Hair Metal right before rock got real again.

Jay-Z got snowed by Kanye’s fluffering … get back to creating music for the people, times are tough, people need a message, not just look at me in my gold Bentley (that shit is for when times are good).

Mannnn I’m from the Chi and I totally agree … The College Dropout Kanye was a demon … I believe he so watered down now. Now he had some breakout moments like whn his mother passed but since then he has been washed up. Jay-Z on the other hand is also watered down ….He tries so hard to show his prestige over the average artist now that he just sounds AVERAGE …

That’s the point I’m making H the 2nd. What else is there to compare. It’s like the old Soviet Union, You only have one place to buy chocolate and it’s their chocolate. Of course it’s good, but the moment you take your ass to Switzerland and taste their chocolate you lose your damn mind!!!!!! Now you have variety. now you can decide if you like the Soviet’s chocolate because you have other chocolate to chose from. you smell me?!

Had a hard time reading you comment, but i’m going to address your concerns as well. J.Cole is from where I’m from, but he falls underneath jay’s umbrella. Wale is a real nasal flow that makes it hard to understand what he’s saying. Attention Defect wasn’t a classic album, I know i bought it. Big sean’s super boring to listen too. Whiz talks about Weed and Money. Why get excited about something that isn’t yours. Wayne can’t even compete with Jay’s or Kanye’s bodies of work. Album of the year that’s a bit far fetched, plus he has like 30 damn guest spots on his album. You know what that say’s to me. He can’t hold his own album down.

I’m going to address some things just for you. 1. Lyrically Jay is stagnant. he has really changed how he flows on a track since american gangsters “no hook” Kanye is trying too hard to impress Jay on songs. 2. The production it self is fantastic. the choice of samples cope with the real musical compensation on top has always been a main stay for Mr West. 3. The lay out on some songs as far as the arrangement’s could have been changed. All and all it’s a great album  if you consider today’s standards of music. Is it a good listen yes, Is it they’re best work ? No.

@ryangomez: you didn’t get truly read my post. I understand that times changes and so does someone’s life, but the argument that is being made here isn’t the fact that these two aren’t progressive artist. It’s being too hype about a piece of work when there isn’t ANYTHING else for this piece of work to be compared too. The thing about the 90′s and early part of this new decade was the fact that there was a variety of great product for something like this to be compared too. Like for instant, When Blueprint came out, you had De La Soul’s  Art Official Intelligence album. Both artist where from New York both artist were on two different spectrum of what hip-hop reflected at the time. On the underground side of things you had MF Doom’s Mmmmh Food LP. When jay-Z released La Familial Lp in 2000 you had Outkast Stankonia that came out. Both were stellar albums in regard to pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. Now you have Watch the Throne. What would this album be compared to to test it’s greatness? How far will we stupefy ourselves to the general released audio waste the failing “Industry” is pushing to us as music until we are feed up? So do I think this album is wack? Hell no it’s a good album from two proven great artist. But is it there best work? that’s the question that still looms. I appreciate your input on the subject matter Mr Gomez.

I feel like you’re trying to compare what made them start rapping, to all the adventures both Ye an Jay been threw. Jay Z has been here since the 90′s, an has progressed as an amazing rapper. In my opinion he was always “good”. As time moves on to me Jay is getting BETTER. Regardless of what he is CURRENTLY rapping about. What he’s rapping about now is present day. As for Kanye what is there to say. He has musical as far as fashion influence from all over the world an hell he’s even coming out with his own womens brand in the next year or so. Kanye is diverse, an just because he isn’t rapping about school an Chi Town doesn’t mean he isn’t the same person. He changed an went through a lot of “Lifes” obstacles. He grew as not only a producer and a rapper, but as a person, an individual. An the amount of growing these two did together, comes out on this album. Hope it makes you think a little differently

People use to get excited for album because people actually put albums out. The industry was focus on putting albums out. Now they worry about the next single and honestly, they don’t put the time and effort into developing a project to make it something special.

It’s good that you want to rap, not issue with that, I just don’t understand the game needs a change angle because the game now is the same as it was 20 years ago. BS rap and good rap. Classic shit and 1 hit wonders. Honestly, the only real difference is the radio (media) and now there is a big influence on album sales. Before 50, no one gave a shit about sales but now, first week sales proves if your album is good or not.

This album is hot. At first I thought it was overrated but that was my error for judging an album after the first listen. I think Late Registration was Kanye’s best album. My favorite Jay album is Blueprint 3

  • http://www.facebook.com/corey.lyles Corey Lyles

This is the passing of the torch IMO. This has Yeezy written all over it, and if you listen to the lyrical content, Kanye’s flow  is surpassing Jay’s each year. I think he knows that and he wanted to make an album with him cause the tables are definitely turning. It’s a great thing for music period. This is a great overall album even if It doesn’t meet the hype for some people.

i still think kanye’s my beautiful dark twisted fantasy is better. i’ve listened to this about fifteen times so far and it just isn’t as lyrically fulfilling. i think jay goes harder than he did on blueprint 3, and kanye has some great lines, but i expect more from these guys, and at times it just feels disjointed. these guys set the bar at the highest, and then to call themselves ‘the throne’….i guess i was just expecting more, something classic like blueprint/reasonable doubt/college dropout/my beautiful dark twisted fantasy. as far as production quality, it’s pretty topnotch. with that said, i still bought tickets to see em in nola and it’s still probably the best album that’s come out this calendar year.

People shouldn’t compare albums, each album is from a different time, when different views, movements and styles were all applicable. All of this changes with time, old Jay Z or Kanyes stuff can’t be compared with this because artists change, mature and shift styles. For what is is within the album and nothing beyond it, Watch The Throne captures what has changed in the game and is a highly expressive album within it’s own right.

“N*****’s want my old sh*t, buy my old album…”

    - Jay – Z.

Not a a huge fan of the album. I do have one HUGE problem with it though. The last track should be titled “I love you so” by Cassius feat. Jay-z & Kanye. That being said if you’re going to rap over another artists actual piece  of musical creation don’t bother to call your album Watch the “Throne”.

My favorite quote thus far referring to this album:

“Why have all that power and cash and volume if you’re not going to do anything with it except collect more?”

Without stressing too much over this album and diving into how
disappointing this “music” is: This is MTV rap . . . plain and simple.

Yes I did, I didn’t say it was a bad album. the production is the stand out feature on the album, but my point is what else is there in the market that can compete? hell, jay said it himself and i quote ” You remember when people us to be excited about albums when they were release? It was like so and so’s album is better than so and so album or did you just hear what that “N” just said?! Now  in the ring competing against myself” end quote.

Whatever with that, they’re still rappers and hip-hop is an art form,so trying to separate the two doesn’t make any sense.

Hip Hop is dead, like Doo-Op is dead, like Baroque music is dead like House Music(Chicago House) is dead.  It can exist in pockets or be resurrected for a album or a track, but it is more in the spirit of Hip-Hop than the actual thing.  You don’t see a lot of innovators just putting out work like you saw roughly 10 years ago and further. Organic rap does exist but you have to look for it. I feel like Jay-Z has seen where rap has gone and even probably knows his best work his behind him, in fact most artist do there best work in there 20′s thats in music, paint, sculpture mathematics or whatever but he probably sees what the genre has become and at least feels that his work is needed so we don’t become totally retarded ppl lol  I must admit that the some of the lyrics sound recycled in some way, shape or form, but it is steal delivered better than most of these young rappers can do today.  Ive seen on a lot of blogs and comments mad at the amount of samples used, but I feel like they probably know the wide array of the listeners and feel that if they didn’t sample this music, some of the people would never be expose to other genres. I give the Album a hard B-, and on the mainstream level it is probably the Rap Album of the Year at all of the Award Shows. Just an Opinion.

Although it is “arguably” changing, its all drifting in the same direction. 808/Heartbreaks IMO was change. Without that album much of what we hear now would’ve remained the standard mpc/femalevocals/MC stereotype. Not that theres something genuinely wrong with it, just that, unless its some classic a.k.a. “Low End Theory” most of it is bland and the MC’s aren’t killer at the execution anymore.
In order to be great you have to make a drastic change. I’ve heard a lot in the modern rap game but change is hard to come by. I am excited though. Check KIDS THESE DAYS.
Wonderful mix of old and new gets you at the core.

I paid $22.85 for an iPhone 4-32GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $674 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Interesting that the two tracks that seem to stand out from the others both sample electronic artists. Seems to be the current trend in music. “Who Gon Stop Me” samples Flux Pavillion’s “I Can’t Stop” and “Why I Love You” samples Cassius’ “I <3 U So". Generally, hip hop/rap has always thrived on the sample and it seems that it always will. Obviously, there are exceptions now and then. I definitely agree with a few others here that the production overshadows and even at times overwhelms the content lyrically on this album though, which is surprising given it's Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Bro., you’re trying to analyze some lyrics and half assing while doing it.

    “Human Beings in a Mob…”
    “What’s a Mob to a King?”
    “What’s a King to a God?”
    “What’s a God to a non-believer, who don’t believe in anything?”

There are people who “believe” in Witchcraft, spells/roots, ghosts, aliens, etc. – but what are these things, to those who DON’T “believe” in them?

Truth is, there ARE non-believers when it comes to religion, is that something to be ignored? No. Is it something to go ape shit over? Fuck no!

If there is “the wild,” there’s no church, in a sense, to even “believe” in a God. That’s not to say one doesn’t exist, but there’s no evidence of one to believe in, IN “the wild.”

“The wild” could also symbolize one who is “lost” in the world and has no rules to abide by. And I’m not even going to touch that nonsense of a statement, that there are no lyricists in Hip Hop.

And after more listens, particularly to the lyrical delivery and content, although it’s bragging and boasting (who does it better than these two?) I cannot give this album ANYTHING less than an 8 on a 10 rating!

Production is super epic! The feeling that I actually get listening to the instrumentation, the mixes, all of that is SUPERB!! This is much better than MBDTF and most of you probably drooled all over that album!

    Standout Tracks:

    1. “No Church in the Wild”
    5. “Gotta Have It”
    6. “New Day”
    8. “Welcome to the Jungle”
    9. “Who Gon Stop Me”
    10. “Murder to Excellence”
    11. “Made In America”
    13. “Illest Motherfu**er Alive”
    14. “Primetime”

The production on “Primetime” is like Kanye went back in a time machine and pick up some shit from College Dropout.

And we don’t even need to speak on track 16. “The Joy”

You people need to wise up and stop fighting the fact that this joint IS pretty fucking amazing, all because you don’t want to feel like “followers!!”

**Notice that “H•A•M” nor “Otis” was in my opinion about makes it classic and that’s not to say these track aren’t tough**

Even “Lift Off” is better than actually expected, but it’s not one of my “standouts.”

agree with most comments..not revolutionary..just evolutionary.  Will definitely be listening to it, but would have liked to have seen some more musical innovation from this duo..some mashups, some 80′s music with slight changes, seems a bit lazy.  They are capable of a ton more.  Some hypocrisy in here as well.  Jay release DOA and then there’s auto-tune all over this release.

If you’re into music like I am, myself, it’s very easy to argue WHY this shouldn’t be. Even as good as it is… but In the mainstream world, who else is going to get it over this? Drake? Nicki Minaj? Lil’ Wayne? Think about it.

I appreciate the kind words. I do realize that this is a new time and era. the younger demographic hasn’t had an opportunity to experience the awesomeness that is the culture of Hip-Hop. during it 30 year history this has been the lowest point for the genre due to the fact that everyone is afraid of doing something original. Now I don’t want no one to think that I’m hating on this album, all i’m saying is that this isn’t they’re best work. the production is stellar  however lyrically they haven’t up the ante to the level of they’re past works.I can appreciate the friendly banter and respect everyone who has a opinion.

Most music needs at least a few listens before you should decide if you like it or not. That is MOST music, there is SOME that you hear and instantly like. However the music that has instant appeal usually always has some familiar tune hence why you like it. kanye brings originality to his albums, he pushes the boundaries and could potentially extend them, so for those people that think that WTT is not the shit, listen to it again.. and again

    then decide

As far as the production that’s only half of the battle, we can go on and on about our opinions but what is the standard for one to judge this music we supposedly love so much. evidently you  to didn’t read my entire post or you would’ve gotta the jest of what I was saying…….P.S this Rap game is too over saturated with hopeless Jay-Z and Kanye clones for me.

Outside of “New Day” this album isn’t for me the beats make it impossible to call whack but you know both can do better just by listening to “The Joy”. I looked through this album hoping he topped his :Shiny Suit Theory” verse but that didn’t happen. Oh well.

This ALBUM is the best I’ve heard all year.  In a single driven music world, this is a true rarity. Must be heard from beginning to end.  For those who know the true impact and album can have, and the attention to detail that it takes to make 10+ songs gel together in a way that sends a UNIVERSAL message, it’s a hard feat to achieve in 2011.  This ALBUM is an instant classic.  We will be hearing these songs in random orders for the rest of the year and next.  The fact that it didn’t leak is a very, very strong message in itself.  I’m super inspired, and I don’t even make hip hop records!  This album is more than just J & Yeezy.  The beat makers, mix engineers, and producers did a FANTASTIC job.  Lot’s of Lower East Side and WillyB/ East Bushwick Indie Pop influences.  Folks, silence the hate that’s been spoon fed to you, relax, open your minds and fall in love ‘Watch the Throne’ and bow down to a phenomenon thats truly ahead of it’s time!

Your computer speakers will not do this album any justice…. You have to have a system and turn it up! Is it better than there past work… Speaking in a traditional hip hop sense no, because it is not traditional hip hop music. But as far as music goes I think its great! They are trying to take a step in another direction, This album is for a much broader audience, someone who may not like hip hop might like this. Personally I love it!

Everyones a critic kind of ridiculous, make your own tracks and write your own lyrics and see if you say anything significant that hasn’t been said. Everything’s recycled, its now the art of how to make it sound like something is new again, hip hop is at a dead end REALIZE THE FACTS. No imagination in this generation, just media injection and add campaign selections that make the Hype, that make you buy it. Hov’s new ish is like your tool kit. By the time you listen to it and take it all in you’ll realize hip hop just caught its second wind!

Preach my nigga… Ain’t this the truth.  In 10 years time, multiply the retards out now and what they think is cool. It’s creating a simpleton society of acceptance in regards to what is pure utterly shit. Im really afraid of the future unless an enlightenment happens soon. If not…What the hip hop pioneers worked so hard to establish will be lost in dusty crates. Long live the last pure artists which actually pay homage to the ones before them by putting out music which builds off of the last…Music is a reflection of society…now look around you and ask how many dumb ass people are there…technology can’t replace basic common sense nor wisdom.

without change, where would we be?  this album is an evolution of music and represents it’s time to some degree.  rd and do are hot; will stand the test of time and embody, to some regard, what music was during that time.  i love what they did with this album – replay value is off the charts.

I went off Jay-Z and Kanye when they became obsessed with this whole ‘affront to god’ determinism.  Truesay they are talking about the crux of the issue and this album is a lot deeper than materialism, this is about decision making.  The first track says it all, what’s a God to a non-believer.

To people talking about lyrics, there are no lyricists in the game.  Time was when you could pick up anybody’s cd and there would be not only lyrical dexterity but originality.  Music now aspires to be conceptual and clubby.  This album does more than anything out there at the moment and there are a few standout tracks.

The crazy thing about it is the psychology/ideaology behind this album. This is some End of the World record.  Hip-Hop has been dead a while this is a augmented reincarnation, impossible to be genre faithful and hell bent on one thing….you figure it out

If you remember Digable Planets then you’ll recognize one half of Shabazz Palaces the album is called BLACK UP and ISH calls out rappers like Jay-z and kanye as ‘corny nigga’s’ who have nothing to say so they talk about their love of materialism.

it’s easier to love something that is old and proven (reasonable doubt, College Drop Out)..   It’s harder to accept something new..   The production on this album is killer, and you know it..  So stop bitching or start rapping..

I would say album of the year so far b/c i thought it was going to be this good especially how the albums this year have been.

  • http://twitter.com/ThisisCH Charles Hunter

I agree. Some say give it time, which is partially correct, but first impressions isnt OMG with this album. Now this is not hating or anything because I am a huge Kanye West fan and consider Jay-Z to be the greatest rapper (I know that will cause another debate). I think you have a good point when you see a silver in shit and think its gold. So much BS is out there that we assume anything with potential to be amazing. Now, hip-hop has always had bad/good rappers and a mixture of one hitter and classic. It wouldnt be hip-hop without that. I think in this situation the people are riding the wave of the promotion. Now again, this album is good but I hear people saying classic, best ever and other quotes that reference greatness. That is what scares me.

to knowledge1, i see what you mean, its like jordan baling with rookies = no real competition . but you gotta understand this isn’t the late 90′s early 2000′s . as nice as they are, they still have to eat, so they gotta go electro pop to lure in the younger demographics . and thomas augustus, you’re right .. its like they want us to KNOW  the punchline is there, as opposed to us just listening and being like “OH SHIT, THAT WAS DOPE !”  the album is great for these two as a duo. I’m big fans of them both (both in my top 5)

I just don’t hear what all of the hype is about. Yes it is better than everything else that is out, but look at whats popular right now, gucci Man ,bullshit White girl Mob, waka Flocka , nothing else can compete when shit is surrounded by garbage i know most won’t like my comment, but until we get more diversity in this hip-hop game, brothers average flows will be considered Woah!!!!! Now no one on here can tell me that Kanye from college dropout isn’t iller than this new Electro-pop version of himself. Same thing with reasonable doubt Jay. do the history if i’m wrong prove your point.

its good,  to the guy earlier who gave an A for lyrics and C+ for lyrics,  I would agree except the problem isn’t with the lyrics but with the delivery. a lot of times the delivery just sounds a little forced, mostly from Jay. overall a good look, experimentation and progression is good!

  • http://twitter.com/eee Edel
