Vans Presents Pass the Bucket with Dennis Martinez

April 18, 2011Cultureby Staff30 Views

Pass the Bucket, a video presented by Vans, chronicles the story of Dennis Martinez – 1977 World Freestyle Champion skateboarder and 1978 U.S. Champion. At the age of 16, Martinez had all he ever dreamed of (including a salary of $40,000/month while still in high school) until a serious drug habit became an addiction and he lost everything. Now, sober and getting his life back on track, Martinez is involved in a local program that helps rehabilitate convicted drug addicts and educate youths about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Watch the video above to see how this programing is giving former addicts the tools they need to stay clean.

Damn. I think more people need to hear the message that everyone deserves a second chance. People need to not be so judgmental. We are all guilty of it. If you saw any one of those guys walking down the street in the back of your head you would think “Oh look at this guy he is a creepy fuck up and if I don’t move to the other side of the sidewalk he might jump me” but really those guys are trying to turn their life around and are trying to help kids not make the same mistakes as them.
