Craig Redman for LAQ "Darcel" Furniture Piece

After launching an initial collection in 2010 that included three tables made from the traditional techniques of lacquering, furniture specialists LAQ reveal several new special pieces for 2011. Made by 2, 4 or 6 hands, they happen to enrich the imaginary world of LAQ by telling new stories developed through unique encounters. One of the projects include a design created alongside Australian artist Craig Redman and his character Darcel. Darcel is a small and disabused character straight out of Craig Redman’s imagination. He offers a colored vision of Redman’s daily life. The encounter between founders Raphael Lancrey Javal, Pascal Maugein and Craig Redman gave birth to a Darcel in 3D, symbolizing the blending of contemporary culture and ancient techniques. Made of resin, wood and lacquered metal, mother-of-pearl and eggshell, this high-craftsmanship’s version of Darcel offers a hidden storage in his eye such as the 17th century ceremonial furniture for secrets. This is the radical clash of periods, styles and thoughts that symbolize LAQ products.
