Number Six: Oliver Twisted “In Country” Exhibition

December 9, 2010Artsby Staff19 Views

Over the past year, British retailer Number Six London hosted a number of well-respected artists whose work spans on a range of forms and genres. The latest exhibition showcases the work of multimedia artist Oliver Twisted. The show is entitled “In Country” and presents a series of photomontages that concentrate on the Vietnam War. Consisting of sides taken by U.S. Marines, “In Country” was a phrase used to describe the time spent out in the field. The series captures quiet moments of rest, and then preparations in-between fire fight and full-scale battles. The exhibition is on display now and will run until the end of the year.

…..very NOT intriguing. I love Erik Brunetti’s take on imagery and graphics from Vietnam, this is just other people’s photos layered in photoshop, big whoop. Rauschenberg took imagery that already existed, but at least he made it interesting. This is like a sedated look at war in Helvetica. Hopefully there’s not a bedazzled helmet at the entrance of the exhibition, wtf are you Oliver Twisted, another bored trust fund baby?

Hopefully the exhibition hits SF. The photos display great angles and the lighting compliments the somewhat faded background in the first and last.
