Wings: Making the Field Notes 2010 Fall Edition

November 5, 2010Cultureby Eugene Kan40 Views

Proud of its American roots and dedication to domestic manufacturing, FIELD NOTES presents this latest video documenting the step-by-step creation of their seasonal color collection Raven Wing notebook. The video starts in Freeport, Illinois at Freeport Press. Utilizing decade-old machinery, Dan Barron goes through the procedures behind the printers and his personal love of the craft. From Freeport, they are taken to Bloomingdale, Illinois where they are finished off and prepared for retail. As we continually hear the about changes regarding analog and digital mediums, it’s refreshing to see the age old methods and the beauty of their final products.

it was funny for me to watch this , because this is what I do all day. Im a second pressman, and also work in our bindery, running almost an identical stitcher. Its a hard job, and not very glamourous , but it amazing seeing these machines work in person.

Very well done, and I will for sure have to look these guys up for some of our future printing needs. I use a place in Wicker Park that is very similar…amazing machines to watch in person.
