In continuation of the 50th anniversary celebrations, Sanrio are to travel their latest art exhibition and associated pop-up store to Miami, coinciding with Art Basel Miami Beach: an event considered by many as the US’s most important art show of the year. The show will feature 50 internationally-recognized artists, each selected by curator R. Rock Enterprises to create original works inspired by their favourite Sanrio characters. The exhibition will display within an 8,000 square foot custom space in the Wynwood Arts District and will showcase an impressive line-up of work from major names in the contemporary art world including: Shepard Fairey, Niagara, Jason Alper, Adam Wallacavage, Mark Mothersbaugh, Richard Colman, Mike Shinoda and Seonna Hong. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the original work and limited-edition prints will go to Hands On Miami, a non-profit, volunteer based organization that brings hands-on community support to individuals & families throughout Miami-Dade County. The sister pop-up, “Small Gift” will also be showing three 35-foot wall installations created by artists CRASH, POSE and Anthony Lister, along with a 35-foot visual timeline of the history of Sanrio.
