This past summer saw Apolis (which translations as “Global Citizen”) visit a production facility in Vietnam in order to meet some of the people who work to produce a portion of garments for the label. Designer Raan Parton motorcycled through Vietnam picking up friends and inspiriation alike along the way. Reporting the experience as both enriching and informative, Parton closely followed the Apolis ethos of “allowing the market to determine the future of each item” the brand produces. Endeavouring to allow people access to opportunity rather than providing empty charity, the Vietnam expedition exposed the challenges of creating manufacturing partnerships that are empowering for the production house, beneficial for the designers, and engaging for the consumer.
