Ai Wei Wei “Sunflower Seeds” @ Tate Modern

Oct 13, 2010  /  Arts  /  2302 Views

Chinese contemporary artist Ai Wei Wei represents the 11th commissioned artist to work alongside the Tate Modern for their ongoing Unilever Series. Known for his conceptual work, Ai Wei Wei essentially filled the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall with sunflower seed upon sunflower seed. However the catches lies in the fact that each sunflower seed is in fact a porcelain recreation produced by craftsman from Jingdezhen, China. The exhibition’s overall theme was bringing to light one of China’s most notable art forms together with the notion of “Made in China”.
