September 24, 2010Styleby L. Ruano305 Views

Following an initial preview into Jun Takahashi’s Gyakusou International Running Association, we now get a closer look into the product featured within this capsule collection between UNDERCOVER and Nike. The result is a series of garments equipped for the countless obstacles and changes in climate during long distance runs. Offered is everything, from lightweight outerwear, to shirts, pants, shorts, headwear, and footwear, all featuring the Jun Takahashi touch. Along with a view into the collection, honeyee produced an insightful interview with Takahashi, where he speaks of his Gyakusou International Running Association. The feature can be seen here, although its unfortunately entirely in Japanese.

The reason Nike is able to sell a running jacket for a $90 is because they manufacture them in China. Nike X Undercover products are manufactured in Japan. The cost of manpower in China & Japan… is different. VERY different.

I like it. Everyone is different. If you can afford it and it keeps your legs moving it is all good as far as I am concerned. I would buy for sure. Stick with my Triumphs though.

Liked the light jacket and the pants till I saw the price… Ridiculous. If it helps build your self esteem.. Then more power to you.

do any of you know nike has a high-end line and they had like M-65s and shit? (forgot the name..think its under NSW)
like seriously, except for the shirt, its not THAT much more expansive than those nike ones. (if anything, its pretty similar)
and the texture is really smooth and light (like crazy light), and theres like no stitches or something
idk.. just saying if you’ve seen the highest nike line then these prices aint that crazy.

typical hypebeast response. the purpose of the product is to run better through performance technology, right? aside from cut and design, i don’t see anything special here as a runner. i appreciate the concept and design, but head to toe, the outfit will run you $1000. if you think that’s reasonable, than you’re an idiot. who cares who designs it, it’s supposed to be for running. you’re obviously someone who doesn’t run and just cares about “looking” the part.

one of the most intriguing collabs of the year. Again, the point was made earlier about the exclusivity of the product being a turn off. I disagree 100%. Want a cool product, you need it to be exclusive sometimes. Undercover chose an interesting palate for the project and I am digging it. An unusual usage of colors from a man known for his blacks and greys. Love this product i am praying you cant get it at footlockers and tweenie bopper nerdo steez stores. The shoes should be Tier 0

  • SBTG

hey man. this is merely a small collection. Please forgive them.
There are still lots of affordable nike products to buy that works for you.

“but my point is this collection is unique from their past sportswear ventures with the likes of HF or futura or any other creative collaborator. they’ve created a line for a purely sports and performance focus, rather than fashion.”
    - Yes, but they have pre-existing backgrounds in streetwear; you’re used to seeing them in this market. It would be naive to think that their products are limited to sports and performance. Undercover isn’t? These are merely reinterpretations of sportswear product.

“by creating a highly limited and difficult to obtain product seems to contradict nike’s mission statement of bringing innovation and inspiration to everyone.”
    - You stated it: HF and Futura. Both command price-premiums, both are limited. And being that these are interpretations of sportswear pieces, I cannot see where innovation and inspiration is absent. Stating UC’s collaboration as available to everyone clearly contradicts your stating of HF and Futura: this has previously occured.

“i don’t see anyone into UNDERCOVER who doesn’t run suddenly feel inspired to take up running simply from some fancy collection.”
    - Look at Jordan brand and Supreme. No one suddenly feels excited to take up basketball and skateboarding from some fancy collection. Case in point: product use shouldn’t be pigeonholed into a category they exist in.

“nd as a runner, i don’t care who designs it. $485 for a running jacket is obcene when i know nike makes a $90 running jacket will do the trick.”
    - Tell those who waited for the Air Yeezy

One word best describes this line- “garbage”

you see so many guys like Rez defending their favorite brands…. that’s why so many designers/brands dare to put the ridiculous price tag.. anyway, good point Jaze!

  • Theodoreelohino

amazing equipment. The price is crazy though, but it’s worth it in a way, I guess

  • Jaze

point taken. but my point is this collection is unique from their past sportswear ventures with the likes of HF or futura or any other creative collaborator. they’ve created a line for a purely sports and performance focus, rather than fashion. by creating a highly limited and difficult to obtain product seems to contradict nike’s mission statement of bringing innovation and inspiration to everyone. i don’t see anyone into UNDERCOVER who doesn’t run suddenly feel inspired to take up running simply from some fancy collection.

Remember who they’re collaborating with. More importantly, who the demographic is. Chances are your average joe is not even remotely familiar with the Undercover brand.

  • Jaze

sooo doing a quick conversion of the prices from the site.

    light weight stretch jacket. $485
    french terry hoodie. $261
    dri fit top. $125
    rip stop pants. $336
    lunar spiders. $168
    dri fit cap. $87

Does anyone else find this ridiculous??? so much for nike bringing innovation and inspiration to the masses. what’s the point of creating exclusive sport product and pricing it beyond what normal people can afford?

  • wanker901

very nice indeed. probably japan only though like all the good stuff

  • ReZ

    very nice
