A front runner of the Android mobile movement, HTC recently unveiled two brand new phones based on the successful Desire model. Covering different user needs, they will come to market in the form of the Desire HD and the Desire Z. The Desire HD as the name suggests is a high-powered multimedia handset with a 4.3″ LCD display, Dolby Mobile and SRS Virtual Sound and a new 1Ghz 8255 Snapdragon processor. The Desire HD’s body is constructed of one piece of solid aluminum. The Desire Z fulfills the need for those requiring a physical keyboard with a slightly scaled down 800Mhz 7230 Snapdragon processor for a best of both worlds for battery life and performance. Both phones will be equipped with the all new re-designed HTC Sense with European and Asian availability starting in October.

    I’ve got my HTC Desire HD a couple of days ago and loving the speed and screen size. Atlas, it still has its cons like battery life and minor tweaks. Overall, its a 4 out of 5 stars for me.

    The Desire HD looks nice; but is still has a ways to go to knock the Samsung Galaxy S off the top teir. The speed of the ARMv7 and the incredible SuperAMOLED developed by Samsung are just King right now.

    All this talk about apps is a non-issue when you consider that 90% of them are utter crap. The fact of the matter is that no single phone will be everything to everyone, and for those who don’t like the iPhone for whatever reason -there appears to be a lot of us out there- HTC makes great phones (and has been for years, well before the iPhone). Be glad there’s choice… cheers/dom

    I was an apple fiend until I got the Galaxy S. I was in the store hype about the HTC they had in, then the guy pointed me in the direction of the Vibrant. Shit is bananas, that is one of the only phones I’ve seen compare directly with the iphone. Right now, the Galaxy S and the Evo are the best out, and the Galaxy S even shits on the Evo a little bit. Just a little…lol!

    The CPU is actually the Qualcomm Scorpion, not the Snapdragon. Scorpion is the “next gen” part and supposedly on par if not better than a 1ghz Snapdragon. Like the old PPC vs. Intel (or Intel vs. AMD) debates of old, clockspeed is no longer a way to really judge performance.

    I’m still running a G1, this will be a welcome upgrade.

    apple fanboys obviously have no idea what they are talking about. yes, the iphone’s screen is truly awesome and it does have larger software support. but that’s it, in everything else (except design, which is ur personal choice, although i do myself even think the iphone looks a bit better). and as for software support, android is going to grow a lot more than apple in the coming years.

    The Desire Z is releasing in the US as the T-mobile G2 and will have Android 2.2 (stock vanilla)
