First off, photo tees are the shit. the reason people make them is because they are so. It’s not like anyone makes a photo tee and goes, DAMN, i worked hard on that. Thats not the issue. So to make a strawman argument (look it up) that designers view a photo tee as some huge endeavor is wrong.

Secondly, the tenderloin project is something Sean Desmond started as a way to not only represent what he saw around that neighborhood in an artistic way, but also to raise awareness of the blight and disenfranchisement of the neighborhood as a whole, which is right down the street from posh Union Square and the Financial district.

Part of the money raised through the sale of the prints, books and tees ends up going back to help that very neighborhood. And even if it wasnt, the fact that tee shirts raise peoples awareness about things is benefit enough. They could be making tees with a bunch of chicks and sneakers on them, but instead they decide to do something a bit more substantial, and thats to be applauded. Try looking through things with a bit less cynicism and youll find not everyone who owns a business makes every decision based solely on the bottom line.
