Nike Sportswear celebrated the start of baseball season and opening day for the NY Yankees by hosting its first ever NSW Stickball tournament and block party, with music provided by Q-Tip. The day also marked the global release of the Futura x Yankees product collaboration. A roster of 30 NY locals including Asher Roth and Jesse Boykins, who also sang the National Anthem, were all ready to throw down in this years game. They all received a customized 1 of 30 Futura x Nike Sportswear jersey to play in, as well as a drip-painted stickball bat by Futura. In preparation for the big game, a bus full of the players drove up to Stickball Blvd. in the Bronx on Saturday for a Spring Training with The Emperor’s Stickball League. The players were given a brief history on the sport and its origins followed by a bat gripping workshop, batting practice and scrimmage.
Sunday’s tournament ended with a victory by the “21 Mercer Mercenaries” team, a Q+A with The Emperor’s Stickball League and a game viewing of the first true rivalry game of the baseball season, Yankees vs. Red Sox. Images of the event can be seen below.
