Nike Park Tokyo Art

March 25, 2010Uncategorizedby Eugene Kan43 Views

With a re-construction plan slated for April 1st, 2010, the Nike Park Tokyo project has been an ongoing source of politically-fueled controversy. Much of this stems from Nike’s acquisition of the naming rights for the public space originally known as Miyashita Park. A by-product of this has been a number of grassroots works of art created as campaign visuals that have been put up throughout the park.

I love that because it’s Nike people want to jump on the bandwagon. Where is the outrage regarding the Saints still playing in the stadium where unspeakable things happened. Where was the outrage over the US bullying middle eastern countries in the name of democracy but we love China because we get everything we use in our daily lives from them. I’m sure that there are homeless people in your city right now getting being told to leave their dwellings and you aren’t saying a word. I can’t wait for the feature about how wearing your ass as a helmet is the hottest thing in fashion right now…

Those people LIVE in that park. They’re not just hanging out, making artworks, and being tree-huggers. They are homeless people who have lived in that park for years and been basically left alone by the TMG, but apparently Nike feels it is important to bully a bunch of homeless people out of their spot because the real estate is ‘sweet’. Whatever Nike.

DAMMMN. for a second i thought what the hell are nike doing in their marketing department then realised it was a protest. Wow well what can you say? People have to speak theri mind. But i dont think it will do much of a dent in the rep of Nike. People are increasingly linking their “culture” with brands and the “grass roots” /”ethical” brands marketing techniques are becoming more and more indistinguishable from the brands that dont really share the same social responsibilty ethics/business plan.

    telling Hypebeast
    Nike is evil
is like trying to prove logical flaw in religious fanatics
    the point being
until you take it to an extreme and really try to get your point across by other means
nobody will bother paying any attention

    congrats for the park

I’m sure most people on here think its super that Nike wants to brand itself on public spaces and nature, but at some point people gotta realize that their coveted kicks are made by children with glue sticks. Get over it. Stop the corporate take over of the world or go tattoo a Nike symbol on your face if their stuff is that great. I applaud these people for standing up against unnecessary things like this happening.
