Blends x RRL by Ralph Lauren “Made in USA Project” Denim

January 21, 2010Uncategorizedby Eugene Kan233 Views

As part of the Blends Made in USA Project, the San Diego-based retailer has teamed up with RRL by Ralph Lauren, one of America’s most respected brands, for a limited edition denim project. The raw black selvedge denim is produced in a strict low-run of 50 pairs. Available on Saturday, January 23rd at Blends. For more information, head over to Blends.

We at Blends have teamed up with RRL by Ralph Lauren to produce and limited number of selvage denim jeans for the historic first release of our RRL X Blends collaboration as part of our Blends Made in USA project.

Extremely limited Black selvage rigid denim from Okayama Japan is used and the jeans are manufactured in Polo’s US manufacturing facility. These are a slim fit silhouette; perfected by RRL, whose denim pursues the perfect re-creation of the details of vintage denim.

RRL X Blends selvage denim is limited to 50 pairs and each pair is individually numbered. Rigid black selvage was selected to reflect both our enthusiasm for motorcycles as well as vintage American style. There are 5 different threads used in the manufacturing of the jeans. Also, there are hidden rivets in back pockets just like vintage denims. When one looks closely at the details of the jeans, they will be instantly amazed at how well this product has been put together.

We hope to use our Made in USA campaign to recognize the importance of the American worker. Ralph Lauren is an incomparable American Icon in the clothing industry and this product represents both Mr. Lauren and Blends spirit and pride in the USA and American made products. We wanted to produce a unique product to kick off our Made in USA campaign and as such the entire Blends staff is honored to be part of this release with RRL.

“More product and order information is available at www.blendsus.com”.

    Not even worth it.
The hype kills all these products along with the price.
Although, in my opinion, denim makes an outfit worth while, these jeans are nothing to brag about. In fact, a disappointment…

You can go to downtown LA, buy some premium japanese selvage denim for $4 yd, get some trim, take it to get sewn . Start to finish would cost roughly $18.00 + gas for running around. You can sell to a store for $40.00 and they would retail for $80-$100.
Any raw selvage denim over $150 is a complete joke. < thats adding $50.00 -70.00 for the cooler brand name.

“How does a small shop like blends pull off such a high profile collaboration?”

Because the owners have been in the game for decades. They keep a low profile, and dont try to play the whole “look i own stores” game like other people. Dudes had shops in socal carrying Comme de Garcon, etc back in the 90′s. So they arent small in the sense you mean.

While other Okayama based Japanese companies have the same quality jeans made in Japan, with a lower price; RL is prcing these 450 just for the sake of Made In USA. It’s kind of pathetic that how American cloth retailers are trying to catch up in the raw, selvedge, high end denim markets. With $450, I’d choose Skull jeans, Flathead, Samurai, RJB,…..
btw, I don’t think these jeans are unwashed, so what’s the point of made from selvedge????
