The SBTG x DC Life “Circus of Mutants” collection was originally previewed earlier this month as the collaboration involves famed sneaker customizer SBTG and is set for a January 2010 launch. Sneaker Freaker gives us a further glimpse into the collection and its inspirations. Three shoes, board shorts, two tees and two hats all created by SBTG are in the mix. The inspirations come from a legendary Singaporean skate crew titled the “Circus of Mutants” who were shredding it up in the 80s and 90s (which included SBTG as a team member). The inaugural sneaker release is inspired by Singaporean skater and “Circus of Mutants” crew member Lucas Ng who earned the nickname the Fly for his aerial prowesses. The release of the sneaker will also be accompanied by an art contest and event involving New Zealand retailer Loaded with details seen below.
DC is proud to announce the official release event in Asia Pacific for the Spring 2010 collaboration with renowned Singaporean design collective RoyaleFam. The collection will officially hit select skateboarding stores worldwide in January 2010. To celebrate the release, DC and leading New Zealand retailer, Loaded will be hosting an event in Auckland on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. In conjunction with the event DC & Loaded are selecting 20 artists to participate in an art competition that celebrates the role of collaborations in culture and the connections between skateboarding, street art and design progression.
The competition is open to New Zealand artists only, before this competition concept heads into the Asia Pacific region, including making a stop in “The Fly” and SBTG’s native country Singapore.
The selected artists will be given a blank skateboard deck to use as their canvas as they showcase their talents in front of local and international media as well as the chance to win one of two DC prize packs. If you are a New Zealand resident and interested in being an artist selected for this competition please email DCxRoyaleFam@loadednz.com by 5pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2009 (NZST).
Your email should include your short biography in 200 words or less as well as two to five low resolutions examples of your previous work. The best 20 applicants will then be supplied with a skateboard deck due for submission by Friday the October 23, 2009, which will be on display at the launch event and judged by SBTG – live in Auckland, NZ on Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
More detailed information regarding the submission of entries will be provided to artists on application.
Stay tuned for additional information regarding the event to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, which will include an appearance by SBTG, as well as a live musical performance from Southern California’s Renee Renee.
