In a move away from fashion towards more lifestyle-driven items, the Maison Martin Margiela Line 13 2009 fall/winter collection is set to hit select retailers within the next few weeks. Under the theme of “White Objects”, the concept is appropriated over items including calendars, pens, Matriochka dolls and bottle lamps among other items. Available later this month at Maison Martin Margiela Central and Harbour City locations in Hong Kong.

The Maison has created a style concept with its collections that was rapidly visible through the environment of the brand. Beyond the approach and conception of its collections, the unique identity of the Maison was clearly recognizable in the spaces it occupies, with signature elements like the use of whites, cotton fabrics, ‘trompe l’oeil’, diversion, mix of styles and époque, and hints of humor creating a unique atmosphere and ambiance.

In the midst of the development of the architectural care for its ‘professional’ spaces, the Maison created a small collection of objects & publications named ‘Line 13’, started in 1999. On the occasion of Salone Del Mobile in Milan, Maison Martin Margiela presented the “white objects” collection of line 13 within its installation ‘Mat, Satiné, Brillant’:

The cotton calendar: an embroidered cotton page calendar that becomes, once the year is over, a 12 piece napkin set;

The empty souvenir giant snowball: an oversized ‘souvenir’ snowball, only with sparkles or snow, leaving space to imagine and remember;

The feather pen: attached to a classic ballpoint pen, a delicate and immaculate feather gives a humoristic twist to the obsolete feather pens of the past;

The Russian dolls: the classic Matriochka dolls, entirely white and anonymous, imbricate into one another (handmade in Russia);

The bottle lamps: the ultimate recycling concept, using used bottles of wine and liquor, their labels faded in white and, completed by hand, adding the necessary classic elements to become a traditional lamp.

These objects will be available in the Maison Martin Margiela stores worldwide and a selection of fashion multi-brand stores in October 2009. The collection of the “white objects” is part of the global project of interior design and architecture that Maison Martin Margiela is developing for the near future.
