Filmmaker Jake Davis introduces this new contest which includes a whole record compilation from Secret Stash Records – purveyors of jazz, funk and their latest project, Reggae Interpretation of Kind of Blue. A very special and exclusive album which has been on hiatus in the 80′s until now. Great original music, check out below to see how you can win the whole collection.

When I discovered what Secret Stash were up to I thought this is so cool. And I know the word is really overused and means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But to me these albums from concept to execution are really fuckin’ cool. So I want to hear what cool is to you. It could be a quote, a story, an object, a photograph, a movie, maybe a few original words. Whatever is inspiring you lately. There is no right answer. But the coolest one gets the collection of vinyl. You have a week, use an active e-mail, inspire in the comments section below, and follow on Twitter @JakeDavisFilms for the cool…

What’s cool to me is that first drop of o.j. in the morning hitting my tongue… hearing a song for the first time & the way the instruments seem to dance around the drums… or a nice cool breeze when your chillin in the shade hiding out from the sun… and what would be cool to me is if people settled arguments with their mouths instead of using knives & guns… or opening up my mailbox to find a 12″ by 12″ package & not know who it’s from… and to open it & scratch my head & say… damn… I actually won…

Cool is when I dust of my Vintage Reggae Vinyls and play them on my Numark TT200 through my customized speaker monitors. It is very inspiring to hear great music that crosses over barriers and to me that’s timeless. It makes me feel as if i’m releasing the unrealeased greatest music from these physical realms. The music within my Vintage Archives gives me a directions in everyday life to give out that positive energy and to show love to everyone. For WE the people that’s Originally COOL!

as a jazz and reggae head the alignment of both genres to form one sound, the way they’ve done it, is quite exceptional. hope you guys continue with more posts like this. this project is a perfect example of a successful and meaningful “collabo.”

Cool is the feeling I get when I dust off a 33” from my crates and touch the needle on my 1200′s into the groove.. I haven’t DJed in years, but I can’t seem to bring myself to sell my pair of Technics and Vestax mixer. I’ve thought about selling them on Ebay, but I haven’t yet and probably will never. It’s funny, I used to laugh at old folks who got up and walked away from turntables – but that’s exactly how I use them now. When I cue up my Stevie Wonder “Songs in the Key of Life” or Eric B. & Rakim’s “Paid in Full,” there’s no better feeling. It’s cool that I will never give up that feeling..
