Following a series of previews in the past, here’s a thorough unveiling of the NEIGHBORHOOD x fragment design Vintage Custom Works 2010 collection. The collection revolves around various re-worked jackets each bearing specific co-branded touches in the form of patches. All-in-all, the collection features leathers, cotton jackets, zip parkas and t-shirts with availability through the NEIGHBORHOOD store in Harajuku.

If it’s true or not the Fragment lightning bolts are a direct reference to the SS. Wether this is for pure shock value its rather lousy.

This just shows how intent the Japanese are on emulating images or styles without really looking into, or caring really, about the deeper background of the styles.
Yes, this is inspired by the postwar biker culture in the US, and not directly by Nazis, however the fact is the biker culture referenced by this line was in itself inspired by supremecist values of Nazi Germany. You could say they were the first of the Neo Nazis.
The Japanese might be meticulous about adopting certain styles, but as they never, or rarely, truly adopt cultures it will only ever be a facade and therefore often miss cultural references.
As you’ve said truthbtold, it’s a result of blind devotion to US culture. Nothing more than ignorance really.
Having said that, Japan has developed it’s own culture when it comes to hip hop and such and therefore manage to do it well.

Believe it or not that look (Nazi) was very popular post WWI. It was when certaint type of inviduales called it their own that some consider it a negative look. A lot of Japanese fashion brands are obsessed with mid-late 20th century American culture. Japan on a whole is obsessed with Amercan culture like jazz, hip-hop, denims, and anything else the US gave birth to. So I don’t think there really into the “Nazi” movement like you said Jonathan but I see what you are saying.
