Here's why: inner sleeve. Yes, the alife's have an inner sleeve that just makes the alife version more comfortable. And using an outsole (in the alife version above, the outsole is the brown bottom) is a great improvement because the bare crepe sole on the original is so soft that it gets very dirty and very worn too easily (who hasn't had a small pebble actually sink into their wally sole?). Also, alife laces don't come undone every 20 feet like clarks.
