Olafur Eliasson x Mekanism Skateboards “Your Mercury Ocean” Skate Deck

Continuing their artist series program, Mekanism Skateboards reveal a new project alongside Dano-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. The campaign, entitled “Your Mercury Ocean”, references to previous sculptures made by the artist, with this latest project being even more meaningful considering his seldom involvement in commercial product. Each piece features a chrome finish with a ripple effect and almost double the thickness of a usual board, with 13-ply construction rather than the standard 7-ply. Only 90 limited edition decks were produced and will soon be available through the Mekanism Skateboards webstore.

lol ppl 13 ply is not rare in the skate world most long board decks are 9 or more also some old school cuts and just cuz its double the layers wont make it double the weight it depends on the wood or material use if he used a lighters wood it probably might be only a bit heaviery but its will still be skateable

nice finally i can buy a deck that i can get from a models or a toys r us just really expensive wooo ! … this is the worst i love artist collabs with boards but a 13 ply even if not meant to skate boards are forever going to be made to skate one day no matter how thick you make it or who drew on it ….

Shit, 13 plys? That’s retarded, the deck is 2x as heavy as normal then, and the ripple effect is gonna fuck with slides until it gets scratched off, if it can be scratched off that is. I don’t know, this is some bullshit, skateboarding is about skateboarding, not some artistic statement. They gonna make rippled wheels next? You guys remember slick bottom decks, and what happened to them? At least there was some functionality in mind with their design, this is just some parlor trick shit.
