Last night marked the debut of the Obey x Levi’s 2009 Fall/Winter Collection debut at the Levi’s Times Square store. The release involved a special Obey x Levi’s Live Installation by Shepard Fairey to cap things off. The artwork for the evening included iconic imagery from Fairey’s range of well-documented styles such as the Obey Giant.

I love the Ovation Tv’s “ART OR NOT” on Shepard and i would have to agree with the Art Critics, you can’t hop on both sides of the fence, Art has it’s morals and guild lines that we should abide by, he’s really taking gutsy moves and from the posts,; it seems like no one is liking how he is going about things,I like his style but it’s all starting to look the same stuff, find a new pattern but the same style…..

guys, perhaps u wanna look at the link above to decide for yourself if Fairey is truly the “artist” you think he is.

There is a difference between selling out and being successful, I am all for reaching the masses but as long as the artists integrity in not compromised. Shepard Fairey preaches the word of anti consumerism on the backs of levi jeans, now thats selling out!

I would rather become a sell out then to live as a starving artist. He has not sold his soul just because of some super mainstream exposure. GET THAT COMMERICAL MONEY BRA!!!

Shepard has evolved into a commercial artist….and that’s what they do. He is doing something he loves and getting paid…how is that “not right” .. besides Levi’s is a great classic brand.

Shep has been doing this for almost 2 decades and in that time, he’s produced some of the most iconic images/logos in the history of pop/art culture… the dude “kept it real” for a loooooong time… he deserves to get paid…. and there could be worse companies to collab with, than Levis, arguably one of the most iconic American brands.

    word…how is this not right?
Shepard has been doin his thing in graffiti for a loooooong time
    just like KAWS
    but UNLIKE KAWS
hes not reproducing the same shit over and over
he changes his style from time to time
    and this one time
he decided to apply it to clothes….how is that not right?
and least hes not selling out like KAWS is doing on and off
