Lupe Fiasco – Solar Midnite
by L.A. Ruano, October 16, 2009

Lupe Fiasco launches his first commercial release as a part of the New Moon Soundtrack. Though some might be skeptical about his involvement with the Twilight film franchise, Solar Midnite adds an edgy element to Lupe’s usual arrangements, further cementing the MC’s major creative talents.
“Solar Midnite is my first commercial release that I actually produced as well as wrote. The New Moon team asked me if I could do a song specifically for the film. They invited me to an early screening of the unfinished film from which I pulled different elements that I thought would translate into a great song. I pulled in vocalist and bassist Graham Burris and acclaimed musician Matt Nelson to help fill it out my vision musically and “joila” Solar Midnite was born. The song basically deals with the chaotic love story that takes place between the characters. It’s more on the rock side of my musical catalog and comes straight from my die hard fanhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Keidis, one of my FAVORITE RAPPERS.”

you cant expect lupe to always deliver the same stuff over and over, i dig the way he’s taking different directions with a couple of these new tracks. FnF up!
Song isn’t that bad.
Doesn’t this just prove he did Japanese Cartoon?
its chillll ,
HEY CHAMP FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean seriously, don’t expect Lupe to deliver like this regularly. Lupe probably made the song like that to attract Twilight fans, not his normal fans. I understand him and I would do the same thing if I was in his position.
i cant wait for L.A.S.E.R.S.
mmm this is going to get worse, last Lupe show I went to was over run with 14 year old girls. Methinks this trend will only grow.
Bring back ‘Lupe the Killa’ Lupe
this is the worst lupe song i have ever heard. i love the man he is my fav rapper but this is horrible
i think this song is quite proper. fire and this are very different from the cool and food and liqour. i think in this song, he kinda has a kid cudi flow..sorta
just loss all yo street cred son
I can def see this being an awesome song at a show. I know a lot of people will dislike it, because it’s NOT strictly RAP. Fans hate when you grown and venture out and get to know yourself. Yet this isn’t my favorite Lupe joint, but I do see his direction… would like to see if performed at a show.
RESPECT.
I love this…
im a day 1 Fiasco fan
and i almost shitted on him for doing this
butthen i heard the track
and it sounds so authentic
it doesnt sound like a rapper tryna be rock
its just fluid for Lu’
bigups man
cant wait for L.A.S.E.R.S.
whos on the vox?
=-= SHOULD OF just did it as Japanese Cartoon track might of came out better
Lupe I’m a big fan way before superstar and shit this isn’t what I expected
eh maybe it’ll grow on me….nah a -1 come on son you can’t do this now
meh Fire is alot better i just hope nothing from his album is anything like this
I understand that it must be extremely frustrating being such a fucking dope emcee and not getting the recognition that you deserve [and this track by no means is bad]. But honestly??? Lupe x New Moon??? I never even took the time to even write those words together until now. I understand that homey is trying to transcend audiences but I don’t feel he should cater to them in order to do so. I mean look at [MF] DOOM, back in the day hella niggas thought he was corny, now everyone and they moms pissed themselves when they hear the words “MadVillain 2″. Idk, maybe i’m just tripping and acting like a paranoid fanboy who misses the old mixtape Lupe back in ‘05 and hopes he doesn’t for a lack of better words “fall off”… Thank god for FIRE though… I just read the lyrics not to long ago… JESUS!!!
looks like lupes really switching up his style with the last two tracks, fire, and this one, are more “rockstarish”.
I support. Respek for making new lanes. f & f up.
sick song good job lupe..
FnF up!!
haha yea i agree, i have no clue what he was thinking getting this weird.
this song is kinda weak. lame delivery lupe.
