Aside from the “Pop Life” Exhibition underway at Tate Modern in London, Takashi Murakami has a more extensive video project up his sleeve, made in collaboration with actress Kirsten Dunst and hot shot film director, McG, who most recently directed Terminator Salvation. The video features Dunst, dressed entirely in princess form, singing a cover of the Vapors’ “Turning Japanese” within the streets of Akihabara in Tokyo. Offered is a behind-the-scenes look, while the full video can be expected sometime in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Sorry but have I missed something here? As far as I can see it is just an act and not that she’s trying to be the “real deal”. As it says “video project”. I’d say cute though.

uhh.. I’m pretty sure out of the two of them, the desire to do this belonged to the Japanese guy, not the “westerner”.

I forgot about Kirsten Dunst. costume or not she’s looking good.

I had to rub my eyes when I read “Kirsten Dunst” …this can’t be right?

Although I have to respect her for venturing into unchartered territory – I also have to wonder if Murakami and co. were laughing inside the whole time this took place.

“I’ve always loved Japan, lived there, speak the language almost fluently…but I’ve never understood the desire westerners have to come over to Japan and act like this…it’s embarrassing and it’s not what Japanese people (even the cosplayers) would ever do.”

Ive been to japan plenty of times too and Ive never met a “westerner” with such desire lmao, and since this a piece of art and Kirsten Dunst was inevitably paid for this, i doubt its anywhere near a depiction of Dunst’s hobbies
