Jay-Z feat Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind (Video)

by Davis Huynh, October 30, 2009

New York City’s official anthem from 2009 is now officially stamped with a music video. Directed by Hype Williams, the video not only highlights the majestic boroughs and surroundings of NYC for folks to visualize, but brings forth somewhat of a revitalization of the Empire state. Luckily, Jay and Alicia didn’t have any stages crashers this time around. Check it out.

This is exactly what I thought the video for the song was going to be a bunch of still shots depicting what was mentioned in the song but Im not mad at it I dont know what else you could do for this song but not really original. The song is still dope and Im not even from NY

Was expecting more of a nuanced big budget concept for this. Felt obvious, generic, cliche, whatever other words you want to use. Predictable and a crowd-pleasing- easy-way-out, kind of a video. Got bucket loads of respect for Jay-Z but think he missed it on this one

I would like to be reincarnated as a set of Alicia’s LaPerlas

Asamov uses this same Moments sample on “Supa Dynamite” feat. Mr. Lif. I like that beat better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jJeb3RccnY

But whoever produced the Jay-z track did a good job too.

This God Damn video almost made me cry. Best shit I’ve heard in a long time. I’m glad Jay is reminding the folks up top that selling a song isn’t all about stupid dances and ring tones. Real music is what some people need to be reminded of.
